'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 spoilers: where is Nick going?

The midseason finale of “Fear the Walking Dead” ended with the group being scattered after Celia (Marlene Forte) burned down Daniel’s (Rubn Blades) compound. The group’s split was started by Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) and Travis (Cliff Curtis), who headed off on their own after having a major confrontation at a stranger’s house. Nick (Frank Dillane) went out to find them, and Travis told Nick to go to Madison (Kim Dickens) and tell her that he didn’t see them. Meanwhile, Nick covered himself in walker blood and headed for parts unknown as he walked among the infected, and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Madison, and Victor (Colman Domingo) escaped from the burning Mexican villa.

The second half of season 2 will see the survivors as they face the challenge of being separated from one another, and according to showrunner Dave Erickson, the main question for the remainder of the season is how and when the family will reunite.

“The interesting thing will be watching them splinter off in multiple directions and seeing how the group can survive and what they do to find their place in the apocalypse,” said Erickson to Entertainment Weekly.

It is likely that Nick will have a rather difficult time as he has chosen to head off on his own instead of being with his mother and sister. The former drug addict always had a hard time adjusting to everything that has happened, and he found himself being manipulated by Celia during the first half of season 2.

EW published an exclusive first look photo of Nick, which shows him on top of an abandoned vehicle, still covered in walker blood and looking at something in the distance. Erickson said that Nick wants to find a place where people share his views about the undead not as a danger to mankind, but as an evolution of the species.

“He’s going to set out to find people who are more likeminded and will give him some clues along the way,” said Erickson. “He actually gets to a place with some degree of spiritual comfort for him. It’s not going to last very long.”

The second half of “Fear the Walking Dead” season 2 premieres on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
