After “Furious 7” earned more than $1 billion at the box office this year, there was very little doubt of a follow-up, and indeed, the eighth installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise is now in the development stage. There is already a tentative release date, April 15, 2017, but some are still wondering how it will igo without one of main cast members, the late actor Paul Walker. Nonethelesss, there are already some information and rumors about the upcoming action-thriller, “Fast & Furious 8.”
One previous rumor was about continuing Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, which was said to be played by his younger brother Cody. However, this was put to rest by Ron Meyer, the NBC Universal vice-chairman.
“Paul won’t be in it, but he’ll be represented in some form or another but whether his image is in it, I can’t tell you yet, but he won’t be in the film as a performer, as an actor, the way we did it last time,” said Meyer in an exclusive interview in Variety. “It will still be ‘Fast and Furious,’ it will just be without Paul.”
Another rumor came up that Vin Diesel would like to have his co-star British veteran actress Helen Mirren included in the next movie. Both starred in the recent “The Last Witch Hunter” that went out just few weeks ago. Diesel may also consider Deepika Padukone as part of the film. She is an Indian actress who will be his leading lady in the “xXx” sequel. Maybe both ladies will be part of “FF8” but this is still part of many speculations.
“FF8” is said to be the first of a trilogy that will conclude the franchise but Jeff Shell, chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, said, “To me ‘Fast and Furious’ has become no different than a beloved series that comes on every year.” This could be a hint that there might be some flexibility to the plan of ending the film series. There could be more installments coming and even possible spin-offs.
