As previously reported, the “Fast and Furious” franchise will be entering a brand new chapter in the story as an eighth installment is on its way. With Paul Walker’s untimely and tragic demise, the whole production had to work over time for the completion of its most recent offering “Fast and Furious 7.” Some even questioned if the project will still push through. Given how everyone was able to come up with a hit movie, the team is even moving to broader horizons with plans of prequels and spin offs.
The concept of prequels and spin offs from more established movie franchises is not new. It was adapted in the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it is what the revived “Star Wars” saga is looking to do in their upcoming films. This approach allows the movies to grow and branch out to different stories while staying true to the core of the original movie.
Co-producer and one of the main lead actors of the franchise Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto) acknowledged that there are indeed talks for other movies outside the last three ones which will compete the 10 movie roster of the franchise. In a report by website Variety, Diesel was quoted in saying, “We’ve written out story lines for various characters. We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property, and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”
Although the 48-year-old actor did not disclose which current members will get their own movies, the notion that there is a chance of having stories centering on other characters is enough to excite the fans.
Meanwhile, the upcoming “Furious 8” is creating buzz on its own with plot speculations and supposed returning characters like Eva Mendez. Rumors are also going around that Dame Helen Mirren will be joining Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), and Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw) in the eighth outing of the movie which will be set in New York City.
