A slew of new faces are joining the upcoming season 3 of FOX’s hit hip-hop drama “Empire.”
Actress Taraji P. Henson, who portrays Cookie Lyon, recently took to Instagram to share a photo of the production, revealing that hip-hop legend Biz Markle will make an appearance. “Look who we high jacked for #Empire the great @officialbizmarkie,” her caption reads.
Although it remains to be seen if the artist will make a cameo or portray another character, Henson also posted a video of him singing during a random jam session while on set.
Aside from Markle, the show has found its teenage Cookie and Lucious (Terrence Howard). Stars Ajiona Alexus and Jeremy Carver will make their debut for their respective parts and will recur alongside Ezri Walker.
Alexus portrays the younger version of the Lyon family matriarch. She is described as beautiful, innocent, and someone whose Catholic school uniform cannot hide her inner spark. Meanwhile, Carver will play Lucious in flashbacks. He is a teenager equipped with an incredible voice and a bad-boy edge that captures the heart of young Cookie.
On the other hand, Walker will have the role of Zeah, a nerdy 16-year-old with real talent as a rapper. With his high GPA, the teenage will find himself torn between a future at an elite university and a career at Empire under the guidance of Lucious.
Other guest appearances include Xzibit, Taye Diggs Scott Mescudi aka Kid Cudi, Sierra McClain, French Montana and Birdman.
When it comes to the plot, some speculate that Cookie will be back with a vengeance after Lucious hurt her by marrying Anika (Grace Gealey). She is expected to be stronger, fiercer, and will do whatever it takes to let the world know her rightful position in her family and in the company.
Showrunner Ilene Chaiken previously revealed that, “The family is together, the company is together, and Lucious and Cookie will be in one another’s faces and lives, but her [being finished with Lucious] is going to color everything.”
Season 3 of “Empire” premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. EST.
