BBC’s high-rating and long running series Doctor Who, currently portrayed by the incarnation of Peter Capaldi, continues to allure the audience with unique and timeless twists and turns in the time and space continuum. And unsurprisingly, a set of photo leaks of season 9 taping were recently released apart from the official press release and provided various insights on what the Whovians can expect in the upcoming season. This includes Missy and Osgood’s return for season 9 and Justin Molotnikov’s involvement in the show.

Den of Geek reports that Scottish filmmaker Molotnikov updated his online CV recently with a two-part episode of Doctor Who season 9. His other works include Da Vinci, Merlin, and Shameless, all famous and with solid fan bases among the British viewers.

Osgood’s return was confirmed in Steven Moffatt’s response at the official press release. “Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series,” he says. She perished tremendously from Missy. “The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?” he continues to tease in the press release.

Additionally, the story arcs are now being placed into lengthier two part episodes. In the previous doctor, Matt Smith’s time, most of the story arcs were singular or stand-alone. This time, they are exploring whole new levels of the dynamic between the Doctor and Clara. They are both emboldened by their numerous exploits together. Moffatt continues to shed light on the issue: “We’re doing more two-parters and not just conventional two parters. We’re doing linked stories where you might not be sure how they’re going to be connected until you see them. We’re pushing the storytelling that way, to give us more scale of adventure.” Ecumenical News reports that the mission statement for season 9 is to “go further in space and time.” according to executive producer Brian Minchin.

The pilot episode of Season 9  is entitled “The Magician’s Apprentice” and it will air this fall on BBC.
