'Deadpool 2' update: Cable to tie up 'Deadpool' with the rest of the Fox Marvel Universe

With the trend of interconnected movies especially with comic book-based ones, the release of Fox and Marvel’s “Deadpool” last month opened up a lot of possibilities not just for the character’s future movies but with a lot of tie-ins as well. However, fans may wonder how the present-time-set origin movie will connect to the ongoing “X-Men” series which is currently set in the 1980s with “X-Men: Apocalypse”.

One plausible route that the story can take to tie-in the two franchises is that of Cable’s. In the end credit scene of “Deadpool,” the anti-hero revealed that they are planning to bring in his “sometimes friend, sometimes enemy,” in his follow-up movie.

“Oh! I can tell you one thing, and it’s a bit of a secret,” Deadpool said in the bonus clip. “The sequel? We’re gonna have Cable. Amazing character. Bionic arm, time travel! We have no idea who we’re going to cast yet, but it could be anyone. Just need a big guy with a flat top.”

A podcast titled Superhero News broke down the possible scenario revealing that Cable’s origin. The mutant was originally born Nathan Summers – son of Cyclops with one of Jean Grey’s clones named Madelyne Pryor. Upon his birth he will already be infected by the Techno Organic Virus which is a big epidemic in the comic books story. To be able save his life, he was sent to the future where he took on the Cable persona and eventually met Deadpool. With Cable aware of who his parents are and capability to time travel, he can possibly go through time much like what Wolverine did in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

“Deadpool” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, on the other hand, confirmed that they are indeed pursuing Cable’s participation in the upcoming sequel.

“Yeah, we’re on that path,” Wernick said. “We teased him in the coda, we’re sticking to those plans and are having a great time writing.”

On top of Cable, Heroic Hollywood tipped that one of their Fox sources found out that Neena Thurman also known as Domino will join the follow-up movie. In the comics, Domino is also an ex-mercenary who eventually joined the X-Men. She is able to manipulate luck and her addition will give more complexity to Deadpool and Cable’s story.
