'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' news: Falk Hentschel talks Hawkman

One of the new characters from the upcoming The CW spin-off series “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” is Carter Hall, also known as the thousand-year-old Hawkman.

Carter Hallplayed by Falk Hentschelmade its debut in the recent crossover event of “Arrow” and “The Flash,” which also introduced the immortal villain Vandal Savage. He, Savage, and Kendra Saundersaka Hawkgirlhave a long repeating history of hunting and deaths behind them, with Hall and Saunders already killed by Savage 206 times.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Hentschel talked about his character, how he prepared for it, and other stuff pertaining to the upcoming spinoff series.

Part of the interview was when the actor was asked if the comic books about his character helped him prepare for the live-action small screen adaptation of it.

“I went through the ‘Hawkman Omnibus,’ by Geoff Johns, and sort of made myself really familiar with it,” he said. “But to be honest, because we were mixing the mythology, the background of the characters, the one thing that I just hold onto, that I think, to me, is the most interesting, is the fact that a man, who has been, aside from all the super powers, who has had the ability to see society, humanity, grow up, or fail, or rise.”

He also added that being a human being who’s been born and experienced death for more than 200 times now left an impact on his overall outlook in life.

“He’s really seen the repetitiveness of humanity’s mistakes, and victories,” he continued. “I think, what that does to him, and what it would do to him to see his love die two hundred six times, and all these different scenarios. He’s saying he might’ve met her, already married with kids. Is he going to leave her alone, and just sort of help her not emerge? She has a happy life. What does happiness mean to him? All that.”

“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” premieres on The CW on Jan. 21.
