BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment’s new bestselling hit title, “Dark Souls III,” is the number one game for PCs based on revenue, according to a recent report made by a game analyst.
In a recent revenue analysis report by SuperData Research, the top games on different gaming platforms were listedfor mobile, consoles, and PC. FromSoftware’s “Dark Souls III” ranked as the top 5 game when it comes to console games, but it ranked first for the PC.
“BANDAI NAMCO’s newest title earned an estimated $45 million [from digital channels] in the first month of its release, outperforming console revenue by nearly $18 million,” SuperData chief executive officer Joost van Dreunen said. “This is the first ‘Dark Souls’ title to perform better [in terms of digital sales] on PC than console.”
The mobile gaming platform still has Supercell as the top earning developer, with their hit games “Clash of Clans” and “Clash Royale” turning in the most revenue for the company worth over $100 million. For the console gaming platform, recently released AAA titles such as “Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” “FIFA 16,” and “Tom Clancy’s The Division” were among the top games.
Overall, SuperData said that the gaming industry on all platforms have been steadily growing stronger by the year. However, the console platformmore specifically, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4have seen better growth this year.
“Digital console again sees the fastest growth of any segment for both revenue, up 23 percent year-over-year, and audience, up 15 percent year-over-year,” SuperData said. “Mobile, client-based PC games, and traditional PC games also show year-over-year growth in revenue and monthly active users as digital full game downloads and free-to-play games take market share from physical games.”
“Dark Souls III” will have its DLC released sometime in fall this year. The first details on the upcoming DLC are expected to be announced at the upcoming E3 event.
