'Dark Souls 3' DLC news: two new DLCs planned, first expansion to be released this month?

It has only been five months since FromSoftware released “Dark Souls 3,” and within a short period of time, the game became a critical and commercial success. The game became BANDAI NAMCO’s fastest selling game in their history, as it sold over three million copies worldwide merely two months after its release.

Now, fans are waiting for new downloadable content (DLC) which is expected to provide a new gaming experience. Recently, FromSoftware president and game director Hidetaka Mizayaki revealed that not only are they working on a new DLC, but they are planning to release two new game expansions for the title.

Speaking with Kotaku, Mizayaki talked about “Dark Souls 3” and the future of the game. When asked to give teasers for the DLC and how he plans to surprise gamers, Mizayaki replied, “The only thing I can say now is that we’re planning two DLCs for ‘Dark Souls 3.’ The first is scheduled for release in autumn of 2016, and the second is scheduled for early 2017.”

There are rumors claiming that FromSoftware might surprise fans and release the first DLC sometime this month. However, Mizayaki told Kotaku last month that they still working on the new content, which means that an August release date might be unlikely.

Mizayaki shared a few details about the first content, saying that it builds off of the previous titles and will be featuring a new game area, enemies, gear, and story. He revealed that the DLC will be set in a new location which he believes will offer a different feel from “Dark Souls 3.”

PC Gamer has compiled a wish list for the first expansion, and among those that were requested for the “Dark Souls 3” DLC include new ways to play the game, randomized dungeons, dedicated player versus player (PvP) arenas such as those found in “Dark Souls 2,” and to feature weapons from the “Bloodborne” game.

“Dark Souls 3” is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
