New details are coming in for the highly anticipated Season 2 of Netflix and Marvel Television’s superhero show Daredevil as the production of the series begins.
With the “Walking Dead” alum Jon Bernthal being added to the cast as The Punisher, sources exclusively told Nerdist that the upcoming season is described by newly appointed co-showrunner Marco Ramirez as “Daredevil vs. The Punisher.”
Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada addressed this comment in a separate interview with IGN when asked about how they will try to balance the screen time between Matt Murdock and his antagonist.
“That’s why we pay our amazing Writers Room the big bucks,” Quesada jokingly said.
“We’re so happy to have Jon Bernthal because we have such a world-class cast on Daredevil; we have a world-class actor in Charlie Cox that we want to make sure we chose and were able to attain an actor who is on that same level so I think the combination of seeing Charlie and John perform those parts on the same screen. It’s going to be epic, absolutely epic,” he continued.
The Punisher is one of biggest famed antiheros in the comic books because of his particular brand of dispensing justice. He is a war veteran whose backstory deals with his family being killed by criminals. As a revenge, he takes down criminal by any means.
His methods of getting justice may become a factor for Murdock to question his philosophical views as viewers have seen him uphold his morals in the first season of the show, while dealing with criminals in Hell’s Kitchen.
Moreover, Quesada teased that viewers may expect a great new season, “Doug Petrie and Mark Ramirez, the co-showrunners, have concocted an amazing series, an amazing season this year and believe me, sparks will fly and it’s going to be pretty phenomenal.”
