The agents of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) are making a return on the small screen months from now, and while the departure of a well-loved character in Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) is going to hurt for quite some time, “Criminal Minds” showrunners are quick to compensate with the addition of a new series regular in Adam Rodriguez.
Although CBS or anyone from the show has not provided further details about Rodriguez’s character, it seems obvious enough that he’s going to be the newest member of the BAU and will replace Moore’s character.
According to Cartermatt, Rodriguez is a regular in CBS shows and is the ideal actor to join an FBI team of criminal profilers who are likely going to suffer from the exit of Morgan. The report said that Rodriguez is a versatile actor who can “play a variety of different speeds,” and that he can be both funny and serious.
The long-running TV police procedural crime drama has seen characters go in and out for all its eleven seasons on air, but anyone who came in had a clear-cut role and generally were well-received by its diehard fans.
The finale of season 11 saw several convicts that the BAU caught within the years escape prison and the team will have a hugely daunting task in the next season to help local authorities recapture them. It’s still unclear if Rodriguez’s character will immediately show up in the first couple of episodes of the new season, but the entire BAU team certainly needs all the help they can get at this point.
Season 12 of “Criminal Minds” will feature the return of all agents of the BAU, except for Morgan. Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson), Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Jennifer Jareau (A.J. Cook), and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) will all take another tour of duty as the bureau’s finest profilers beginning Sept. 28.
