Parenting is a constant learning experience, as confirmed by “Counting On” stars Jill (Duggar) Dillard and her husband, Derick Dillard.
In an interview released by TLC, Jill and Derick shared their experiences as parents to their 2-year-old son, Israel.
“I grew up around little kids a lot,” said the 25-year-old mother. However, she mentioned that she felt a difference when it handling her own kid.
“We really love being parents and I think just seeing, as a father specifically, like I enjoy seeing his development and being able to teach him new things,” said 28-year-old Derick. He added that the little boy has started catching a ball lately.
“He says ‘thank you’ now and he’s practicing his manners a lot more now,” Jill stated.
The kid has also learned how to use his cuteness to get what he wants.
“We know that human nature is still there because he’s very manipulative,” said the young dad. “He’ll say, ‘I love you, papi,’ like if he’s really trying to get something to butter you up right before he asks for something,” he continued.
The female reality star is currently pregnant with their second child, which is a boy. She is due in July.
When asked for parenting advice, Jill thinks that they are still not in the position to give advice as they are relatively new parents. She asserted that her mom, Michelle Duggar, can certainly give good tips.
Michelle and Jill’s father, Jim Bob Duggar, have 19 children. The family starred in the original series “19 Kids and Counting.”
Meanwhile, Jill met Derick through her father in 2003. Jim was a prayer partner of Derick during his mission in Nepal. They started communicating through Skype, and three months later, they met for the first time in the said country.
The couple got engaged in March 2014. They said their “I do’s” in June of the same year.
“Counting On” will start airing its new episodes this summer on TLC.
