Conor McGregor fight news: Frankie Edgar is confident that he can beat Featherweight champ


After an impressive 13-second demolition job against Jose Aldo in ‘UFC 194,’ everyone is excited to find out who will be the next match for now UFC Featherweight Champ, Conor McGregor. The Irish man has been riding the success high as he climbs up the ranks making him website Sherdog’s number three in UFC’s official pound for pound rankings and number one in the featherweight division.

While a lot of other fighters may be a little bit concerned about fighting McGregor given how he defeated Aldo, who has not lost in 10 years, Frankie Edgar has been very vocal in his eagerness to face the champion inside the Octagon.

In a recent interview, Edgar told Fox Sports that he has been reaching out to McGregor since the day the latter stepped in the octagon. He also revealed that he is confident that he will beat the champion if the match happens.

“We’ve seen him deal with wrestling of Chad and I feel like my wrestling’s just as good if not better than Chad’s and on the ground I have great top control and great ground and pound and I can do it forever.”

“I really think I’m a nightmare for him. I don’t know if that’s keeping him away. Prove me wrong. Prove all the doubters wrong. Stroke that ego a little bit,” the 34-year-old mixed martial artist added.

With numerous claims that McGregor is looking to go up in division to face Rafael dos Anjos in the lightweight division, Edgar is pushing his campaign more than ever. Some professionals would even see a McGregor-dos Anjos fight as it will be a fight between two champions, something that fans have not seen since BJ Penn went up against Georges St. Pierre in ‘UFC 914’ back in 2009.

As of now, there is still no penciled in fight for McGregor and Edgar is persistent in booking a date with him. “I think I’m the guy to beat Conor. I think our styles match up really well for me,” he finished.
