Viewers of ABC’s police procedural drama series will see a new face when the show returns for season eight on September 21.
Toks Olagundoye, “The Neighbor” alum joins the cast as the series regular Hayley Vargas, a former Scotland Yard police turned security specialist.
She will reportedly be working alongside Rick Castle which fans speculate may pave the way for a possible love triangle on the relationship of Castle and Kate Beckett. Others suggest that she may help Beckett decide between running for Senate and being the captain of the team.
Nathan Fillion who plays Castle said that Caskett shippers should not be worried, “Don’t be worried. In order for a show to continue and to move forward, things have to change. And things have changed, every year, for these two.”
The report added that aside from Jerald, showrunner David Amann has stepped down from the series. Replacing him is the returning Alexi Hawley to work alongside veteran Terence Paul Winter. This is said to be the first season that creator Andrew Marlowe and his wife Terri Miller, who is both writer and producer on the show, will not be onboard the creative team.
Hawley previously mentioned that more changes will be brought in the new season, “We just want to get in there and try to tell some really dynamic stories. Going into season 8, it feels like it’s time to shake things up a little bit.”
Meanwhile star Stana Katic who portrays Beckett said that she may not be appearing on the season’s premiere episode.
The 37-year old Canadian actress tweeted to her fans that she wished her fellow cast members good luck on their first day of shooting earlier this week, “To all of my #Castle friends: have a GREAT 1st day back tomorrow! I miss you & will see you soon. I can’t wait to tell great stories together,” she wrote.
