When Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) goes against Captain America (Chris Evans) in “Captain America: Civil War,” he will need some back up. Aside from his trusted A.I. and his girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), Tony also has Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes or War Machine (Don Cheadle).
However, in the movie, Rhodes will play more than just Iron Man’s back up.
“I never know what it’s going to be and they keep their cards very close to their breast with Marvel,” Cheadle admitted to Superhero Hype when the media outlet caught up with the actor in Sundance while he was promoting “Miles Ahead,” his latest directorial and acting work.
“I never know where the character’s going to go, but he’s become more and more and in the next one, you’ll see that what happens to Rhodey is a little bit more intense and pivotal to what happens in the rest of the stories,” the Golden Globe nominee teased.
If one of the scenes in the first “Civil War” trailer, where War Machine is seen unconscious, is any indication, it is safe to assume that Tony will seek justice for his friend.
As for shooting the action packed Marvel movie, Cheadle said that he definitely enjoyed the time he spent with the other actors but confessed that the experience can also be tedious.
“A lot of time you’re looking at a green screen and a tennis ball on a C-stand, and it could’t be more antithetical to doing what ‘Miles Ahead’ was, but you just give over to the elements and go, ‘Oh these are the toys and I’m playing with the biggest and best toys’ and we’re flying around and doing stuff that if I was ten years old, I would be having the greatest time in my life.”
“Captain America: Civil War” drops May 6, while “Miles Ahead” premieres on Oct. 11.
