Most of “Captain America” fans are outraged and shocked as the newest issue of the comics dubbed as “Steve Rogers: Captain America” revealed that Captain America was a member and possibly always has been an agent for Hydra. The revelation was depicted on the final page of the said issue where Captain America’s speech bubble read: “Hail Hydra.”
In an interview with Newsarama, Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort said that they were surprised with all the hate mail and expressions of dismay that they’ve been receiving. There are even threats sent directly to the issue’s writer Nick Spencer.
Brevoort also added that all of the questions that have been circulating will be answered on the second installment of the comic series. He said that issue number two will somewhat trace the roots of why they ended up to this storyline and could somehow calm the angered fans down and from there, readers can decide if they are still in with Captain America’s journey or not.
Since this is another retcon of “Captain America,” legendary comic-book writer Stan Lee was also asked at the MegaCon in Orlando over the weekend how he felt about it.
“It’s a helluva clever idea,” he said in response to the question with regard to the recent “Captain America” reveal. He added, “I don’t know that I would ever have thought of it, for him to be a double agent. But it’s going to make you curious, it’s going to make you want to read the books.”
Of course, there have been numerous revisions being made to the “Captain America” story over the years, that’s probably why Lee is okay with it.
Here’s the video of his response to that question.
Captain America has always stood for what is right for decades and now fans are somewhat taken aback by this new twist that Marvel has cooked up. Fans are now eager to find out in the next issue the reason behind this curious plot.
