'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' DLC 3 release date: Treyarch re-launches 'The Giant' map; could expansion be next?

Players who are anticipating the next expansion of the military speculative fiction first person shooter “Call of Duty: Black Ops III” experienced a renewed amount of hype after Treyarch re-released one of the game’s previous maps.

The newly re-released map is “The Giant,” a map for the “Call of Duty: Zombies” aspect of “Call of Duty: Black Ops III.” The map is the second map for “Call of Duty: Zombies,” designed as a remake of the “Der Riese” map from the “Zombies” mode of the “Call of Duty: World at War” and the first “Call of Duty: Black Ops.” “Der Riese” is German for “The Giant.”

“The Giant” map was originally only made available by Treyarch as an inclusion with the special editions of “Call of Duty: Black Ops III: The Jurggernog Edition,” the “Hardened Edition,” and the “Digital Deluxe Edition” versions of the game. People who spent a premium for those versions got the map right off the bat, as well as people who purchased the “Call of Duty: Black Ops III” season pass, but for everybody else they had to wait.

As announced by a post on the official “Call of Duty” Twitter account, “The Giant” Bonus Map is now available as a separate purchase for players on all major platforms; the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC. According to the announcement on Activision’s official website, “The Giant” Bonus Map has a suggested retail price of $5.99. It is also now available for the PlayStation 3, with a version for other older generation platforms to follow.

The release of the map brought new hype to the prospect that Treyarch might soon be releasing the next and third DLC expansion for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.” Reports indicated that the expansion might be released after this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which will begin in a little over a week.

Considering the event’s common status as a major launching stage for video games or their post-release content, many believe that Treyarch might announce something about the next expansion for “Call of Duty: Black Ops III” alongside their presentations for the next game in the franchise, “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.”
