The hype is getting stronger and stronger even though we are still several months away from the release of the very much awaited Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And as always, fans love to know more and more about the upcoming film that will have the two most iconic comic book superheroes clash for the first time in the big screen.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, director Zack Snyder explained why Batman is getting more screen time, the life of superhero movies in the current film industry, and more, as he talks about almost everything there is to know about the film.
Snyder confirmed that Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne will indeed get more screen time than the Man of Steel.
“Only in that because it’s a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to doand you just had a whole Superman movie. But I think only in that way, because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that’s more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.”
Talking about working with Chris Terrio on the Dawn of Justice script, he said: “It’s great fun. But it also has an eye toward the futureit’s going toward Justice League. Early on, once we decided that we were going to put Batman in the movie, then I was like, ‘OK, good! Because you know what that means? It means the floodgates can open!'”
Snyder, in a separate interview with Yahoo! Movies, responded to Steven Spielberg’s opinion that superhero movies have a finite lifetime and will eventually go “the way of the Western”.
“He might not be wrong,” he said. “I think it puts more pressure on us, the filmmakers, to not just crank out superhero movies for the sake of it. To me, the one thing I love working in the DC universe is that Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman are American mythology. It’s not about making a superhero, it’s a mythological universe that we live in. That I hope stands the test of time. They stood the test of time. That’s hopefully the sort of magic bullet. But who knows what audiences will want in the future.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on theaters March 25, 2016.
