In less than a month, season 4 of “Bates Motel” will return to the small screen with Norman Bates further succumbing to his psychotic tendencies.

In an exclusive preview that Entertainment Weekly was able to get, it showed a photo of Norman (Freddie Highmore) along with his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) dressed in the same bathrobe. According to the actress, “That image of them looking at their reflections, I think what she sees is that her dreams have indeed become a nightmare.”

She revealed that her fear for her son’s condition will drive her to action, as Norman may be the obstacle to her happiness. She explained further, “I think that she realizes there are only a couple mistakes that one can make along the road to truth: Not starting, and not going all the way. I think she’s going to go all the way.”

As for Norman, he will have a different perspective regarding the “truth,” revealed the same report. He will be in disagreement with his mother, while the show will continue to maintain the “love affair” that they have as a mother and son.

Meanwhile, in the promotional teaser posted on the same page, the conversation started with Norman telling his mother that there is “something dark” in her, and it needs to be stopped. Norma told his son that he is scaring her.

Eventually, the snippets show several scenes such as Norman being locked in his room most likely by his mother, several confrontations between the two, and at least two “dead” bodies that are being buried or concealed.

Around June last year, showrunner Carlton Cuse revealed to Calgary Herald that “the promise of Season 4 is Norman unleashed.” He explained how the first three seasons started slowly, showing the gradual progression of Norman into his illness, while he and Kerry Ehrin, writer of the show, will unleash “the guy he is to become.”

He added, “He’s going to be driving the story. He’s going to be doing some surprising things.”

“Bates Motel” season 4 will premiere on March 7 at 9 P.M. on A&E.
