The Marvel Cinematic Universe has gotten bigger than ever as Benedict Cumberbatch made his debut this month in “Doctor Strange.” After his first standalone film, fans can expect to see the “Sherlock” actor mingling with other Marvel characters in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War,” and it looks like moviegoers are in for some superhero clashes and unexpected partnerships in the movie.
In an interview with Vulture, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked who he is most looking forward to seeing on the big screen, and Feige said that while there are so many characters that he’s excited to see, there are two heroes in particular who he has his eye on.
“I would say, both because of the characters and the actors who’ve created them, Doctor Strange and Tony Stark,” said Feige. This confirms that Robert Downey Jr. will be back for the next “Avengers” film and that the movie will see Cumberbatch interacting for the first time with the other heroes in the MCU.
The executive did not give any information on whether Doctor Strange and Iron Man will be at odds in the next movie, but he encouraged fans to think outside the box when thinking about which characters will be sharing scenes.
“Particularly in ‘Infinity War’ and the movie after that,” teased Feige, “there are…unexpected team-ups.”
Production has yet to begin on “Infinity War,” and in an interview with Hey U Guys, actor Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, gave an update on the film, saying that the writers are still working on the script.
“I know they’re writing it, and I know that talks of what it’s about sounded fantastic,” said Renner. “There are some really great ideas, and they are following certain parts of ‘Infinity War.’ It’s some real exciting stuff for lots of characters, especially for what they’re thinking of doing for Hawkeye.”
Apart from Downey, Cumberbatch, and Renner, the movie’s IMDb page reveals that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be featured in the film, as well as “Guardians of the Galaxy” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista.
“Avengers: Infinity War” opens in theaters on May 4, 2018.
