'Avatar 2' news: Col. Miles Quaritch coming back to life in the sequel; Zoe Saldana says story will be 'emotional'

Ground breaking “Avatar” has been one of the most critically acclaimed movies of modern times. Not only did it break records by being the highest grossing film by earning a massive $2.788 billion, but it was also touted as a breakthrough in cinematic technology with the use of stereoscopic film making.

Created, written, and directed by famed director James Cameron, “Avatar” is set in the mid 22nd century when humans are colonizing the fictional world of Pandora in the Alpha Centauri star system. The film became so successful that a series of sequels have been approved and are already in the works.

The first movie following the debut flick is set to hit theaters December 2017. Although there is still a long way to go before the public can watch it, spoilers have been circulating fueling more speculations on what might the new flick bring.

In a report by Deadline, Cameron shared some tidbits on what’s in store for “Avatar 2.” Although he didn’t elaborate too much as to keep the interest going, he confirmed that Steven Lang, who played Col. Miles Quaritch, will be back for the upcoming movie. “Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back. I’m not going to say exactly how we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend,” the director who first rose to fame with his work in the equally smash hit “Titanic” said.

In a separate report, actress Zoe Saldana, who played the female lead Neytiri, gave in as much as saying that the anticipated sequel will be an emotional one. This may back up a previously published spoiler saying that a huge war between humans and the Na’vi will take place causing Zaldana’s Neytiri and Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully to be apart from each other.
