After the success of “Avatar,” 20th Century Fox is coming out with “Avatar 2.” The movie’s theatrical schedule is still not determined as planning stage has been extended.
Coming from nine Oscar nominations for the first “Avatar” movie, the film’s director, James Cameron, is faced with a tougher challenge to come out with a better sequel. Cameron told Entertainment Weekly via phone interview in December 2015, “I’m in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now. Just refining. That’s in parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this point. We’ve been designing for about a year and a half now. All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much set.”
In another report by MNG, the storyline will center on Jake and Neytiri, who are rumored to become parents in the sequel. The report described them to have half-human, half-Na’vi children. Neytiri will be portrayed again by Zoe Saldana, while Sam Worthington will return as Jake Sully. The report added that Cameron said that the sequel will be delving into the oceans of Pandora and moviegoers can expect an emotional plot.
In an interview by Fox News, the ace director clarified, “We are shooting two films, back-to-back, so I’m writing two scripts, not one, which will complete a free-film story arc not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc so I’m pretty excited about that.”
Meanwhile, Moviepilot reported that the film will start production around April 15 in New Zealand.
There are reports that speculated that the movie will be released in December 2017. However, Master Herald noted that it is rumored to be a trilogy, where the first part will be released in 2017, while the next part will come out in 2018.
