It has been a long wait for “Attack on Titan” fans since the first season of the series ended in 2013. For years, there were rumors that the anime won’t have a second season, and there have also been reports which claimed that the show will return sometime this year. However, an official announcement about the new season has been made, and it was confirmed that “Attack on Titan” season 2 will premiere in spring 2017.
According to Crunchyroll, the announcement was made at the Attack Festival live-reading event at the Tokyo International Forum. A new art visual to tease the upcoming season was unveiled at the event, which shows the giants tearing down the Wall.
The website reports that Tetsuro Araki will be the chief director of the season, while Masashi Koizuka will be a director for the new installment. Voice actors Yuki Kaji (Eren), Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa), Marina Inoue, (Armin), and Araki revealed that back in November 2014 during the opening of the first compilation movie, there were plans for the a 2016 season 2 release. However, Spanish home video and streaming distributor SelectaVisin indicated that the season 2 debut was moved to 2017.
Shortly after the announcement was made, the “Attack on Titan” official Twitter account posted a picture of the directors and voice actors on the microblogging site, confirming that the hit anime will be back in 2017.
As to what lies ahead in the new season, there has been speculation that a power play within an influential family living inside the Wall will be featured in the new installment.
According to Movie News Guide, Krista will be involved in this storyline as she will reportedly disclose her true name to her scout members. Her name is said to be Historia Reiss, and she is the rightful queen of the clan. However, with her father, Rod Reiss, being revealed to be alive, a power play in the Reiss family could break out amid the looming threat of the Wall’s destruction by the giants.
