Android Wear fans are about to get a treat as ASUS’ latest wearable device, the ZenWatch 3, will be coming next month. While the Samsung Gear S3 and Apple Watch Series 2 have already made their way into the competitive wearable market, tech watchers should be on the lookout for ASUS’ upcoming offering as the smartwatch is setting itself apart from other devices in the market, sticking to a classic watch design that will surely appeal to accessory and tech fanatics alike.
The ZenWatch 3 has a round watch face which is a departure from ASUS’ previous offerings. Both the ZenWatch and ZenWatch 2 had square faces, and the third-generation device’s upgraded design is a lot more elegant and stylish than its predecessors. The 1.39-inch watch face comes in Silver, Gunmetal and Rose Gold and has an AMOLED screen with a resolution of 400 x 400 pixels and pixel density of 287 pixels per inch.
The smartwatch has a 340 mAh battery, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, and IP67 certification, making it dust and water-resistant. It has 512 MB of random access memory (RAM) and 4 GB internal storage.
It is expected that the device will come with changeable straps in various materials and colors, just like its predecessors. For the ZenWatch 2, ASUS even partnered with Swarovski Professional to craft an exclusive strap made of fine leather and accented with Swarovski crystals. It’s possible that ASUS could renew the partnership for the ZenWatch 3, and the tech giant might even branch out and partner with other fashion houses in the future.
But perhaps, the most attractive feature about the ASUS ZenWatch 3 is its price. Right now, the most affordable Apple Watch Series 2 costs $269, with prices going up to $1,049 depending on watch strap or bracelet, while the Samsung Gear S3 is said to be starting at around $430. The ZenWatch 3 will be out in November, for the affordable price of $229.
