ASUS Transformer 3 matches up with Microsoft Surface Pro 4; expecting an August launch

Taiwan-based tech company ASUS has been in the technology business for quite some time now and has been known for their production of sturdy motherboards for personal computers, affordable laptops and other mobile devices.

Last week, the company recently introduced the ASUS Transformer 3 at the Zenvolution press event at the Computex 2016. The ASUS Transformer 3 is expected to rival Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 and possibly the Surface Pro 5. The two mentioned products are almost the same in appearance, but differ in terms of their internal specifications.

The ASUS booth at the Computex was relatively near Microsoft’s and spectators might have mistakenly thought that the ASUS demo booth was a Microsoft product exhibit.

The ASUS Transformer 3 dons a 12.6-inch display (2,880 x 1920 pixels) while the Surface Pro 4 only has a 12.3-inch display (2,736 x 1824 pixels). Such may be a slight difference to some, but it matters a lot in terms of the resolution and the crispness of the image.

In terms of internal specifications, this is the part where the device gives more value to every buck spent.

The Transformer 3 starts off with a Core i3 processor, but the demo unit at Computex has the quicker Core i7 chip.

It also has a 16 GB random access memory, but the entry level variant has the decent 4 GB random access memory. The device also comes with several ports including the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Type-C generation 2 connection.

This port can handle power, data and even a 4K display output. Additional ports are also lodged like the microSD slot, USB 3.0 and a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port.

What has yet to be known is the battery life. The device packs a 39-watt capacity lithium polymer battery and consumers will have to find out themselves how long it will last once it hits the market.

The ASUS Transformer 3 could definitely be a formidable rival against the Microsoft Pro Surface 4. The device does most of what the Pro Surface 4 can do and even better on some points at a fraction of the cost.

ASUS Transformer 3 will hit the stores in August 2016.
