ASUS Zenfone Selfie reveal may be coming at Computex 2015


ASUS is reportedly getting ready to launch a new smartphone that will allegedly be called the “Zenfone Selfie.”

According to GSM Insider, ASUS is supposed to unveil the new smartphone in Computex 2015, which will be held in the company’s home country of Taiwan on June 2.

GSM Insider’s source revealed partially complete specifications for the alleged new model from ASUS.

According to the source, the Zenfone Selfie will have a 5.5-inch display similar to the ASUS Zenfone 2. Its selling point, however, will be the high resolution 13-megapixel front facing camera, which will break the practice of smartphones having front cameras with smaller resolution than the rear ones. The front-facing cam will also support autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash.

The source also revealed that the rear camera will also have the same specifications as the front-facing camera in addition to having a laser focus.

GSM Insider said that the rumored Zenfone Selfie will possibly be released before the Zenfone Zoom that was announced in January.

The reports come after it was revealed by Phone Arena that the Taiwanese telecommunications certifier TENAA has given certification to an ASUS handset with model number Z00EDB.

Phone Arena suggests that this could be the new Asus Zenfone 3, a lower priced handset compared to the Zenfone 2.

The report also described the rumored Zenfone 3 with the following specifications: a 5-inch Gorilla Glass 3 protected screen with a 720 x 1280 resolution, a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and a Mail GPU. The newly certified handset also has 2GB of RAM and an expandable memory of 16GB. For cameras, the handset sports a 5MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear shooter with HDR support.

It will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and has connectivity features of 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

The phone will also support two SIM cards. Future buyers can choose between the colors of black, white, red, blue, purple, gold and silver.

ASUS has not yet made an official announcement on the handset.
