Apple Watch vs Asus Zenwatch: Apple offers more options to personalize the look

Wearable technology is making a lot of buzz with the release of Asus Zenwatch earlier this year and the recent launched of Apple Watch.

Comparing the two side-by-side, Asus has 1.63-inch AMOLED display with 320 x 320 pixels resolution and density of 278 pixels per inch covered in Gorilla Glass 3, while Apple comes into two designs 38mm and 42mm. For 38mm, the displays is 1.32-inch with a resolution of 272 x 340 pixels and a density of 290 ppi. For 42mm, it has 1.5-inch display, 312 x 390 pixels resolution and a density of 302 ppi. Retina displays of both versions are covered with sapphire crystal for added protection against scratches.

When it comes to processors, Asus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor at 1.2 GHz, together with 512 MB RAM and 4GB storage and Apple comes with its custom-designed S1 chip alongside with 8GB internal storage. Asus runs with the software Android Wear and Apple with Watch OS, and can only be paired with other android and apple devices, respectively.

Battery life of Asus’s Polymer 1.4Wh lasts up to 36 hours when displaying time and using some applications while Apple can be used up to 48 hours as a timepiece but only six hours for maximum usage when working out.

Sensors included in Asus are heart rate sensor and 9-axis bio sensor, Apple has heart rate sensor, accelerometer and GPS. Both watches have a water-resistant feature, IPX7 rating for Asus and IP55 for Apple.

What may come as the forefront selling point between the two technologies is their design. Asus comes in a standard 22mm size in silver and rose gold color layering with brown leather strap while Apple has various selections that may suit different lifestyles. Aside from the standard version made from stainless steel, Apple Watch Sport which is crafted from aluminum and Apple Watch Edition from solid yellow or rose gold, are also available.

Aside from different designs, Apple also comes with different straps from Reserve Strap’s Fluoroelastomer in several colors, to leather and stainless steel.

When it comes to prices, Apple starts at $350 and can go as expensive as $1,700 for the luxurious edition while Asus is previously priced at $200 but with the recent announcement of Asus Zenwatch 2, it is now available in the market for $150.
