With the announcement of the sequel for the 2015 “Ant-Man,” officially titled as “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” it did not take long before talks for casting started. With main protagonist and the titular character still played by actor Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily as The Wasp, fans are wondering who else will return as cast.
One of the original cast members that have been expected to reprise his role is Michael Douglas. In “Ant-Man,” Douglas played the role of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man and the inventor of the Pym Particlesthe secret behind the shrinking powers of Ant-Man. However, because of his age and the after effects of the Pym Particles, he eventually chose Scott Lang to don the suit.
In his recent interview with Collider, Douglas revealed that Marvel Studios has shown interest in having him come back as Hank Pym in the upcoming sequel. That, as Douglas has shared, is something that he would love to do.
“I just got a call recently,” Douglas said. “They want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought ‘That’s great!’ Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one, but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul, Evangeline, Michael Pena I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too he’s such a good villain. And Peyton, too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018. You know, it’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good.”
“Ant-Man and The Wasp” will hit theaters on July 6, 2018. With this, “Black Panther” had been moved to a release date of Feb. 16, 2018. “Captain Marvel” was also pushed back to a new release date of March 8, 2019.
