A Divorce and custody battle is still ongoing between “America’s Got Talent” (AGT) judge Mel B and ex-husband Stephen Belafonte.
A recent report from People stated that a Los Angeles, California judge has granted Belafonte rights to supervised visitation to their five-year-old child, Madison Brown Belafonte. The court granted him a four-hour session, biweekly, with their daughter at the Ness Counseling Center in L.A.
“We’re very grateful and happy,” Grace Jamra, Belafonte’s attorney, said after the hearing. She also asserted that her client is seeking for custody.
However, the singer’s attorney, Larry Bakman, countered the ruling. He did so based on the evidence that Belafonte is involved in filming pornographic movies.
“We’re still developing the evidence so I’m not willing to comment,” Bakman informed the reporters.
“If visitation were to be granted, and it was, in such a fashion that it ensured the safety of the mother’s child that’s the most important thing to Mel B,” he went on to say.
Meanwhile, Belafonte’s visitation request for Mel B’s other daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, 10 — whose biological father is actor Eddie Murphy — was denied. The former “Spice Girls” has an 18-year-old daughter named Phoenix Chi Gulzar from her first husband.
As for the temporary restraining order, it will stay in place against Mel B’s ex-husband based on her claims that Belafonte beat, threatened, and exploited her during their marriage.
The 41-year-old singer married Belafonte in 2007, after five months of dating, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In mid-March, the British star filed for divorce from her spouse of almost ten years. According to her filing, the couple separated on Dec. 28, 2016. Mel B seeks for joint custody, and she asked the court to dismiss spousal support.
Mel B’s co-judge in “AGT,” Howie Mandel, affirmed his support to the singer.
Mandel told E! News that Mel B is a “very strong woman.” He goes on to describe his co-judge as “very wonderful, good-hearted, great daughter and mom.” He added that Mel B amazes him with the professionalism she brings to the table despite the heartbreak she needs to face at home.
