When season 3 of ABC’s hit thriller superspy show “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns following its hiatus, viewers may see some changes in their favorite characters.
During the mid-season finale titled “Maveth,” Agent Coulson and Fitz successfully returned to Earth after a heart-thumping series of events that resulted to the demise of Grant Ward through the robotic hand of Coulson. However, unknown to them, the mysterious Inhuman creature Hydra has been searching for his dead body and went back with them before they get to destroy the portal.
Although Coulson is safe without any physical signs of injury, speculations have it that he may be psychologically disturbed after going against his principles and killing Ward after failing to save Rosalind.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Jeff Bell teased, “It will be hard for Coulson to deal with everything that transpired, especially the instant he compromised his character to get revenge. Coulson could have left Ward alive after beating him to a pulp, but he chose to finish the job anyway.”
He added that Coulson will be in a darker place as someone who meant the world to him and made him feel again was taken away, “The fact that Ward took Rosalind away from him enraged him in such a way that he compromised his character, albeit in a very cool, epic way. Coulson doesn’t feel great about that.”
Meanwhile, actor Brett Dalton who portrays Ward told IGN that being Inhuman will be a big deal, “This is a new set of challenges very much unlike the first twist in Season 1. As an actor, I’ve more or less gotten to play a new character each season, and it’s incredibly cool and incredibly challenging and fun. But in many ways this is probably the hardest iteration of this character because we aren’t dealing with a ‘human being’ anymore. This is Ward 2.0.”
He also encouraged fans to tune in and watch where his character goes as there will be interesting things to unfold with the theme of the upcoming episodes revolving around the Inhuman’s task in the big scheme.
Midseason premiere of “Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D” airs on March 8, 2016.
