Given multiple reasons, there are speculations that the television series “Agent Carter” may not be renewed for season 3. However, there are new reports surfacing that the network may continue with a third season.
According to Nerd Reactor, a source reportedly told them that ABC will be renewing “Agent Carter” for season 3. The report feels that this is a chance for the show to improve and perhaps infuse a more formidable villain.
One of the reasons why people believe that the show will not be renewed for a third run is its ratings. The viewers have reportedly declined from 6.9 million to 2.3 million during the season premiere of the first and second seasons, reported Blastr. As if that is not bad enough, season 2 also experienced a consistent decline throughout the episodes, marking an all-time low in its episode finale.
“Agent Carter” season 2 also had two weeks of back-to-back episodes, which somehow gave the impression that the show was rushing to conclude the season.
Adding to the rumor of cancellation is the main protagonist actress Hayley Atwell, who plays Agent Peggy Carter, getting a different project from the studio titled “Conviction.” Fans were worried that Atwell may just focus on the new television show, instead of “Agent Carter.”
Atwell is not sure herself about “Agent Carter” season 3’s fate, although she may be hoping for a return. When asked by Comic Book Resources if she thinks that the conclusion for season 2 gives justice to her character, she said, “It’s something I’ve tried not to entertain too much.”
She added, “There is a chance, from what I know, if both shows get picked up, I’ll be doing both. Until I know one way or the other, I can’t jump for joy or grieve.”
No official announcement has been made by ABC, so fans will still have to wait for the network to find out.
