Since the release and subsequent success of 10-time Grammy-winner Adele’s “21” in 2011, fans have been eagerly awaiting and preparing themselves for her latest album, “25.” Clamor built up even more in October after the singer released the music video for the lead single “Hello.” The video has since been viewed more than 400 million times on YouTube.
Adele recently sat down with Jenny Eliscu and a select group of fans for a SiriusXM Town Hall series at SiriusXM’s New York studios. The 27-year-old British singer shared her views on body image issues and self-perception.
“I do have body image problems, for sure, but I don’t let them rule my life at all,” she said. “And there’s bigger issues going on in the world than how I might feel about myself and stuff like that.”
She added, “I think that mainly there’s only one of you, so why would you want to look like anyone else? Why would you want the same hairstyle as everyone else?”
One of the topics she talked about in the intimate Q&A session was her experience being a first-time mom to 3-year-old Angelo.
When asked about her favorite part about being a mother, she replied, “I think everything else in my life now being about someone else and not about myself.”
She talked about how her son “slows down the world” for her, which she appreciates when she’s working and even when she’s not, because “everyday life is fast as well.”
The singer also talked about the “out of body experience of loving someone so much” and said that the difficult, stressful things about mothering teaches her more about herself.
She and longtime partner, philanthropist Simon Konecki, welcomed Angelo in October 2012.
When asked about the artists that she listens to, she replied that she loves Chvrches and Grimes. She also said that when feeling glum, she chooses to listen to music that she can connect with and that that, for her, means Jeff Buckley. She said that she remembers listening to Buckley when she was 7 and that her mother was a huge fan of the singer.
On Nov. 17, Adele released a live performance of “When We Were Young,” the second single from “25.”
