Despite previous speculations about its possible cancellation, "Orange is the New Black" has pretty much been confirmed to make a comeback as season 5 is slated for launch on Netflix by next year.
As reported by iTech Post, the series has already started filming in Hudson Valley, although the showrunners have remained completely mum about the show's future and development.
The final episode of the show's fourth season ended with a cliffhanger, leaving fans to wonder what future awaits their favorite characters in season 5. It can be recalled that Daya (Dascha Polanco) was last seen pointing a gun at Officer Humphrey (Michael Torpey). Fan speculations leave Daya with two different fates. Either Daya will pull the trigger and leave the show, or Officer Bennett (Matt McGorry) will return to rescue her from the consequences of her actions against Officer Humphrey.
Another compelling rumor that is circulating online is that "Orange is the New Black" season 5 will be the last for Piper (Taylor Schilling). The theory reportedly began when the actress herself was quoted in a recent interview saying that Piper's role is becoming less and less important in Litchfield Penitentiary.
In other news, University Herald also reported that Laura Prepon, who played the character Alex in the show, will be returning to direct a season 5 episode of the hit series. Although there is no announcement yet as to what particular episode of the upcoming season she will be directing, fans are already in anticipation of her performance behind the camera.
Prepon somewhat confirms this news herself by posting a photo of herself with Schilling on Twitter. She captioned the photo, "Directing my beautiful co-stars. What a gift and it's not even Xmas."

"Orange is the New Black" season 5 is expected to air sometime in June or July 2017 on Netflix.
